FAITH NO MORE IS BACK!!!!!!!!!
"Faith No More has always stood out as some sort of unique beast; part dog, part cat—its music almost as schizophrenic as the personalities of its members. When it all worked, it worked really well, even if the chemistry was always volatile. Throughout our 17years of existence, the mental and physical energy required to sustain this creature was considerable and relentless. Though amicable enough, when we finally split, we all followed paths seemingly destined to opposite ends of the universe.
Yet during the entire 10 years that have passed since our decision to break up we've experienced constant rumors and requests from fans and promoters alike. Nevertheless, for whatever reason, none of us kept in regular touch, much less to discuss any possibilities of getting together.
What's changed is that this year, for the first time, we've all decided to sit down together and talk about it. And what we've discovered is that time has afforded us enough distance to look back on our years together through a clearer lens and made us realize that through all the hard work, the music still sounds good, and we are beginning to appreciate the fact that we might have actually done something right.
Meanwhile we find ourselves at a moment in time with zero label obligations, still young and strong enough to deliver a kickass set, with enthusiasm to not only revisit our past but possibly add something to the present. And so with this we've decided to hold our collective breaths and jump off this cliff....
BACK, GOD FORBID, INTO THE MONKEY CAGE!!!
We can only hope that the experience of playing together again will yield results erratic and unpredictable enough to live up to the legacy of FNM.
Who know where this will end or what it will bring up...only the future knows. But we are about to find out!
FAITH NO MORE are:
Mike Bordin, Roddy Bottum, Bill Gould, Jon Hudson and Mike Patton"
I.... might actually be able to see the beast, the men, the legend, live, in concert. Oh sweet monkey jesus. It's almost too much to bear.

Printing them was a bit of an adventure. Printing with waterbased ink without retarder SUCKS. Printing waterbased ink without a heatgun or flash dryer SUCKS. I really need one or the other, preferably both, ASAP. In the end I was only able to get about six printed before I had to clean out the screens and start again. My boss has been really helpful and supportive though. He gave me a catalyst to mix into my inks which helps them stay in the shirt since I don't have a proper dryer, and he just tonight gave me a chemical I can mix in that--while not strictly a retarder--should serve the same function. I'll hopefully try it out later this week.
But I have to say, the registration is PERFECT! Absolutely spot-on. I couldn't have asked for better results from my little press :)
If anyone is interested, I've been uploading pictures of my various printing projects to my Flickr account, and I just uploaded a couple videos of my press to YouTube.
I know that I haven't spent much time on LJ lately, and I do miss it. I've not been keeping yall abreast of my projects, and I'm hopelessly behind on my f-list. But the simplest way I can put it is that things are good, things are busy (crazy busy almost!) but the things going on are exciting and positive.
I hope yall are well!

So, about a month ago, I signed up for a meme committing me to make something for the first six people who signed up. I ended up doing a little more than that, but it's ok. These are the results.
First up, for Jenn
pac, a new headband, since her manfriend Richard
vomitsaw stole the last one I made for her. This one's a little more fancy than that though; I took the opportunity to redraw her horns, and add a decorative stitched border around the front. Er... and ignore that huge spot in the hem where I clearly fucked up, lol. Modelled by my roommate Jen.
Next up, iPod cases for four lovely people: Ali
mckenzee, Josh
joshtothemax, Laura
alethalruby, and Aubrey
spookyelectric1. Note the custom hand-screenprinted designs on Josh and Aubrey's ;) Fun stuff :) And, I fixed the tops on Josh and Laura's so they don't look quite so fucking bobo now.
For Lisa
mishmashed, who requested not an iPod case, but a woodcut, I made this, heh. I haven't had a chance to print it yet, but I should be doing that one night this week. Once it's printed, I'll watercolor it or tea paint it. The image is flipped, so you can read the text. This was a hell of a lot of fun to make actually. I haven't worked much with wood, and when I have it's always been a nightmare. But I carved pretty much all this in the "proper" way, using a single blade and carving out each line individually, rather than just using U and V gouges like I would with linoleum.
And, for my friend Tim, I drew up this pretty wicked skull and screenprinted it to some purple fabric and sewed up him up a case. I've gotten a lot better at making these. In the end, it turns out that while machine sewing is fine for the inner and outer linings, to stitch the top in place, I pretty much have to hand-sew it if I want good results. I discovered this doing Aubrey's, which was too small to even attempt machine sewing. I've got some more cupcakes and skulls printed to a couple different fabrics. I may sew up some more of these and try selling them on etsy.
Anyway, gotta run to work, but wanted to share these.
Later, yall!

What up y'all! I kinda wanted to keep this under my hat until I was further along, but I'm way too excited for that, SO, dig it:
Ever since I made those screenprinted patches a while back, and found out about ThreadBanger, I've sort of had sewing on my mind. So, while I was home for xmas, I got my mom to show me the basics of using a sewing machine, and she lent me an old singer machine she's not using anymore.
For my first project, I decided I want to make iPod cases, for myself, to give to friends, and to sell on Etsy.
This was my prototype. I can't fucking believe it went this well! It's a little snug, but it fits like a GLOVE! I also can't believe that in the span of... probably 2 hours total (over a few days) I went from not knowing how to use a sewing machine, to making a fucking iPod case, complete with soft cotton lining!!!
[Edit: After sliding it in and out a few times, the case has stretched out (*juvenile chuckle*) and the fit is absolutely perfect :)]
I LOVE MAKING SHIT!!!!!

Phew, holy buckets of hell am I glad this baby is done. I've been working on this whenever I could for more than a month now. I owe a huge thanks to my boss Steve for making me the films I used (with registration marks), letting me use the shop to burn my screen, and tipping me off to a way better way of doing my colors.
Anyway, so I'm guessing most of y'all are probably Simpsons fans, so our fishy buddy here probably needs no introduction, heh.
I was gonna do a process post for this, but since it's about the same was the dead alive poster, I can't be arsed. If you want to see more of the process, check the gallery and read the annotations. You should also totally buy one!
[Edit: Oh, I knew there was something important I was forgetting to say about this. Like the last poster I made, this too was made from hand-drawn color separations. Which, I'm beginning to think may be more trouble than it's worth, heh.]
I can be arsed to have another beer, tho.
OOH! And in other totally sweet news, I'm moving over from automatic to manual printing at work as of TOMORROW! Schweeeeeeeeeeet!!!
-P.
Heh, I have so many other awesome projects in mind, it's actually hard to know which one to pick to do next. There's an art festival in NoDa on the 10th of December, tho, and there's a couple things I want to try to have done before then. Here goes!

So, I had some leftover lamb (er, and NOTHING else lol), so I decided to go pick up some more spinach and make lamb saag for dinner again tonight. I revised the recipe a bit, though and OH HOLY SHIT IT'S GOOD. It still isn't quite like what I'm used to saag being like, but it's a lot closer and HOLY SHIT IT'S GOOD.
I basically doubled the amount of olive oil, doubled the amount of curry powder, used a bit less spinach and a bit more yogurt.
OM NOM NOM SO FUCKING GOOD NOM NOM OM.
(Like, it was good enough that I updated my el-jay JUST to talk about it.)
Eff.
-P.
PS - Oh, and tomorrow? Spending the whole day with CameronKatie and BeccaChris drinkin, grillin beef ribs, and brewing beer.
Oh no no, dear, that shade of green totally doesn't suit you.

Also. I made homemade lamb saag for dinner monday night. It came out tasting good, but... it wasn't like any saag I'd ever eaten before. Dunno. It was too thick, not moist/creamy enough, and a bit bland. Gonna have to tool with that recipe a bit.
I can make sesame tofu that'll knock yer socks off, tho.
Foreign cultures are so much cooler than ours.

So, I noticed recently that a bowl of cereal for breakfast wasn't giving me enough energy for the first half of my day, so I started waking up early enough to cook myself a full bacon, eggs and toast breakfast. Boo-ya, I'm more energetic and alert till lunchtime rolls around. But, I'm worried about the long term effects of eating that much greasy/fatty food every day.
So, what do you guys eat for breakfast? Anybody have any suggestions for a hearty (hardy?) breakfast that's not quite so artery clogging?
...
Does the fact I realize I can't make it through my day without eating a full breakfast in the morning meaning I'm officially old? lolz

A Note on Screenprinters
Bwahahah! So, I had an idea for a fun t-shirt, had Eric order me half a dozen shirts, and last night I finally printed them up (at home, in waterbased ink with all my own gear).
I did 3 in dark red ink on yellow shirts and 3 white ink on black (though one got messed up). My coworkers get first crack at them, but if you want one, let me know. I was a little disappointed at how light the white ink looks on black, but I'm not super surprised; I was using a 230 mesh screen. A lower mesh screen and better ink would have helped, but they do still look good. The red ink on yellow took really well. Enjoy :)

I <3 Making Shit
Last week at work, I finally executed a project my boss'd had in mind for a while. He wanted to build some kind of rack downstairs to keep all the screens we keep around long-term organized. So, I built a screen rack. It's pretty awesome. It holds 80 screens.
More soon,

So, a few weeks ago, I realized that I'd never printed my name to any of my shirts, so, to remedy that little problem, I whipped up a little name drop for myself, carved it and printed it to all my shirts I'd made. It came out looking pretty neat (pictured right). Basically I drew my name out in charcoal on a scrap of paper, transferred it to a block by burnishing the back of the paper, then carved the original charcoal lines as best I could, giving a cool chewed up look.
While I was at it, I made few vids documenting the process and just posted them to YouTube. Sorry for the shitty quality, but my camera's old and wasn't ever intended for video.
And don't forget Parts 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
Hope that was educational! And now, I have the flu, and feel like a bag of assholes. I'm going to bed. Good night.

Morningstar has served me phenomenally for 4 years, and still performs great, even on new games. I was hoping to not spend money on upgrades for him though, and when the time came, to buy a Mac. This is a little sooner than I wanted to be spending that kind of money, but it did press the issue. I think for now I'm going to hold off. I can probably afford to pay off an iMac in about a year and a half, I'm just not sure I want that extra $100-150/mo added to my budget just yet. So, I'm probably just going to replace the CPU and rechristen Morningstar with a new name.
Anyway, if you need to reach me until I get my machine fixed, call the cell. Ta!
-P.
PS - I'm having an awesome time printing these Pay It Forward gifts :)
PPS - The usericon is a bit melodramatic; I'm not that upset. I don't spend nearly the amount of time on the computer that I used to. It's just a big inconvenience to have it down.

The New iPod, codenamed HOLY FUCK!!!!
Wow! I'm totally blown away by how sweet this device is! I currently have a 3 year old 20gb, b/w, 4th generation iPod. Old, but still works great. The battery lasts 8 hours (4 hours short of what it used to), but still going strong. My mom instilled an instinct in me as a kid to use expensive things (like cars, computers, etc) until they no longer function, until necessity forces you to replace them, so although DAMN I'd love one of these things, the voice that says "but I don't need it; mine works fine" still wins out.
But holy shit, dude, a full colour TOUCH screen iPod that plays music, videos and displays pictures, has a calender (pda functionality say what?), with wi-fi capabilities, i.e. internet and iTunes access is an incredible piece of technology, and I'm sold, I want one.
Other than the 'voice,' two other factors stay my hand at the mo, (1) I'd love to have an iPhone one day. I've been wanting a device that combined phone, pda, mp3 player and camera into ONE device for years, and now it's here, in the iPhone. Two fucking months after releasing the iPhone, though Apple released a newer version of it cheaper. I have the sense that I'd buy an iPod Touch and two months later, they'd announce I could get an iPhone with my current service, Verizon. I think Apple's playing a dangerous game with their product unveilings; each release gets better and better, making me (and I imagine others) hesitate on purchasing, into a kind of stasis.
(2) I'd love to hear from people who use Apple products on this one: Apple's the new big thing. Apple's working hard to release new, mind-blowing technology as quickly as possible, to keep one-upping themselves. But, are they still concerned about releasing quality products? I know I have several mac users on my flist, including at least two Apple store employees, what do you guys think?
Yours in nerdery,

The most awesome keyboard ever conceived? Well, it's here, and available for preorder.
Sadly, it's $1500. The thing is, if I could afford it, I'd buy it. That is an amazing piece of hardware. One day......
In other news, I might go see 300 again today. Dunno, just been in the mood for it lately.
